Lack of calcium can cause Osteoporosis at a later age. You prolly have heard it so often: the older Lady that fell and broke her hip or people getting smaller as they age. My grandma for instance was not that tall, but by the time she was in her eighties, she was a head shorter then me. Each time I saw her she seemed to have shrunk. We ourselves are responsible for our health. (Maybe an idea for a sequel, Hollywood? Honey, I shrunk myself!) As for Arthritis and RA: "Inflammatory arthritis accelerates bone loss".
Getting the optimum intake of calcium daily is critical. There are more sources for calcium then just dairy products. It's in also in broccoli, kale, figs, salmon, spinach, lettuces and parsley. Hehe, seems to me like you don't even have to know how to cook. Just toss in bowl... et voila, a salad!
Calcium can also be taken as a supplement. Make sure to get Calcium tablets with vitamin D to be effective. It also contributes to tooth loss, muscle cramps and hypertension. Ask your Doc if it does not interact with your other medications. I always do. Better safe then sorry:-)
And here is another knowledge: "Studies show that the extra caffeine can weaken your bones". Maybe something to keep in mind when you're about to pour your third cup of coffee in the morning. No, no, if you think you get of that easy by not drinking coffee...it's in soft drinks too (Coca-Cola, Pepsi, DrPepper, etc) and even in tea. Ehh...I think I will go now and have a cup of tea and some chocolate. I heard that brings you in better spirits. Talk about a good justification, haha!!!
