Almost A Century
Many of you know about Pia's Mom and have joined us in prayer for her situation. This morning we heard from Pia that her mom was stable and they are waiting for more test results. Thank you Lord. We continue praying for all of them.
The prayers, the fellowship, the being there for eachother, the words of encouragement, the comfort, all is so very needed and helpful. Even when it comes from across the globe. And yet, sometimes what helps even more is an example. I read Audrey's blog this morning and her post was a great encouragement and a wonderful display of God's grace and mercy. I have something similar that I would like to share.
Grandmother has a slight form of diabetes for as long as I can remember. Always worked hard her entire life. Grandpa died when they both were in their early eighties and although it was difficult, grandma got what she needed and went on. When she was in her late eighties, her hip started acting up and at one point the pain was so great, she could hardly walk anymore. The doctors decided she was strong enough to perform surgery and replace the hip. All went well and after a remarkable short period, she was pain-free and walking again. As she grew older, she developed breast-cancer and had surgery again. They hoped by removing the breast to stop the cancer from spreading. All her brothers and sisters had died from some form of cancer and no one believed grandma would escape this illness either. But she did.
She has exceeded every body's expectations:-). Although she walks with a walker, mentally and physically she is still in very good shape. On February 23, 2006 she will celebrate her 100th birtday!
Thank you Father, for Your grace, mercy and love.
2 Thessalonians 2:16-17
16 Now may our Lord Jesus Christ Himself, and our God and Father, who has loved us and given us everlasting consolation and good hope by grace, 17 comfort your hearts and establish you in every good word and work.

Corry, I am so pleased and relieved to hear about Pia's mother. Thank you for keeping us informed and encouraging us to pray for one another. Thank you for visiting my site the way you do, and please, use any words that you want. I enjoyed the study into "that word," that I orginally had used on the previous blog post.
Andrea:
I know I would like to be kept updated when I knew some one was not doing well. I guess I give what I would like to get:-)
And prayers make a difference!
Aww girl, I hope you knew I was teasing you with the word. Your enthousiasm and the joy of the study came across so clearly that it made me smile. I just couldn't resist teasing you about it. Ok, I will not do that again...well, I may consider not doing that again...ehh, oh crap, haha.
Luv ya:-)
my heart is full of joy knowing that my sis and bro in Christ are praying for my mom. i couldn't thank you enough for all the goodness you've shown me. i have been saying this and i'll say it again, you're like a mom to me. i love you and KC more than you know. thank you and God bless you always.
WOW! your Grandmother is 100-year-old soon. praise the Lord for this very great and special blessing :)
Pia:
We love you too girl:-)
And may God bless you richly.
Audrey:
Yes she is almost a century. Can you imagine how much she has seen life changing? Washing machines, telephone, tv, computers etc and so many other things that made life so much different then when she was born. I pray God will grant her several years more to enjoy all this:-)
God's Grace.
Corry, this is wonderful! You're so blessed to have a grandma who's turning 100 years old soon. Such a special story. Yes God's grace is always sufficient!
Kitty:
Thanks, girl. I am also blessed with having such wonderful friends:-)
God's Grace.
Hi, Corry -
I've finally got a "bit" of time today to get back to commenting at all my favorite blogs so had to drop by. That is such wonderful news for Pia. I haven't commented, Pia, but I've been praying for your mom.
And Corry - how wonderful that your Grandma will soon be 100. Wow! My mom just turned 84 and she is, by far, the best woman I have ever known and someone I try very hard to emulate. She is much healthier than I am, which is great for her and I'd not want it to be the other way around at ALL, and is so intelligent, but more than that, wise with the wisdom that comes from years and years of pouring over her Bible and reading, reading, reading so many good books and engaging in so much study, even still.
We email back and forth to each other nearly daily and I've been calling her a lot lately "just to talk" because I always learn so much from her and enjoy so much laughing with her. She has such a great sense of humor. I have really GOT to post one of my special "View From the 80s" posts about her in the next few days sometime. I've done several of them over the months and she always provides me with great depth and insight to share.
I hope you will all have a good New Year's weekend. Please pray for us here in Katrina Zone. Tom is going to have to work all weekend, again, as he has been doing ever since the end of August and the hurricane, except for those too brief 3 days last weekend and he looks really bad. Very fatigued and so weary he can hardly undress when he gets home.
Pray that God will answer our prayers for him to find new employees he needs so badly very soon and that he'll be able to take a break soon to get away, perhaps, and rest.
Much love to you all as my sisters in Christ.
Grace & Peace,
Dee
P. S. Drop by Grace Notes when you have a few moments. Patrick Mead, a minister in Michigan and an excellent writer and blogger over at Tent Pegs has a wonderful new grace note story he posted late yesterday. I invite all of you to pass along grace note stories to me, too, for us to all share at the blog to be encouraged at well doing by those we meet along our way.

Dee:
I wish my mom would be interested in computers so we could e-mail. Unfortunately, she is illiterate when it comes to "tech" stuff so we stick to calling every once and a while.
It's hard to imagine Tom has such a difficult time finding employees. One would think there would be many looking for a job after the hurricanes. Maybe you can put an "internet-add" up, reckon that might help? You never know but God does:-)
A very blessed and Happy New Year. Our prayers are with y'all.
God's Grace.
My, 100 years old!! Thanks for sharing a very uplifting story about your grandmother! My mom is 89 and is so frail now. I wonder what this year will bring...
Corry, it is fabulous that your grandmother is still with you. I lost both my grandmothers when I was in my 20s. My cousin did an "interview" with my grandmother and grandfather talking about all the things that they had seen change. It was so interesting!
Claire:
89 is quite an age as well. I pray your mom will be granted to stay with y'all for many more years to come.
Gina:
I would have loved to hear that interview. I am sure it was interesting. I think my grandma could write a book. That's an idea! I interview her and you write the book, hehe.
God's Grace.
He is so good to us!
All praises to the King!
CS:
Amen!
Happy new year to you and yours!
God's Grace.
May your 2006 be filled with love, joy, peace, good health and rich blessings from our Lord!
Happy New Year!
What a "great cloud of witnesses" we all have around us! Some still in this world, and others in the heavenly world. Your post reminds me to be so thankful for the souls around me that have influenced me so much for good.
Thanks for such a neat post.
Blessings to you!
*hugs*
Audrey:
Thank you, sweet Audrey and I pray your 2006 will as well:-)
Happy New Year!!!
Joyce:
Happy 2006 and may many blessings come your way and yours!
It's odd actually, I think of my own life here on earth as being a speck in time, yet when it comes to my loved ones, I don't. Maybe a form of denial, or wishful thinking, not to want to loose them in this earthly life. But then again, this life is a speck in time and it would be only a short time before we would be reunited at God's feet:-)
I will ponder on this more. But you are right, let's be thankful for having them around!
Hugs to you too, Joyce:-)
God's Grace.
