Resolutions

As I was reading some comments this morning with all those sweet, wonderful wishes for the coming year, it got me thinking about resolutions.

I used to make resolutions at the beginning of every new year. Somehow it seemed like a fresh, new start. The old year is over. It's in the past. No need to look at it again, what's done is done. And now I have the opportunity to start with a clean slate, to do it right, to change my attitude and/or bad habits. So that the coming year will be better than the last one.

Upon closer examination, it seems like hope, control and repentance are the driving factors to make resolutions for the coming year. The hope that this year will be better by controlling the things I do and say and repent of my sins.

Well... I made no resolutions this time. I don't and won't wait for a new year. I take it one day at the time and make my resolutions starting that moment. After all, every new moment is a new beginning, isn't it?!
Ehh.... that sounds a lot like a resolution to me, haha.

Why do you make resolutions?

Proverbs 16:9
A man’s heart plans his way, But the LORD directs his steps.

I don't really make resolutions too often, but I do like to set out ideas and plans, time schedules and the like about this time of year. I think to organize things and this time of year seems a natural time to organize a schedule, assuming the Lord's direction.

I don't make resolutions...I feel that there's too much of a tendancy to break them.

I do make a list of hopes/goals for the year, as it seems the best time to do this. I'm learning to look at each day as a brand new slate, full of potential and new things.

Blessings to you and yours...

Patty,
So good to see you! I hope all is well with you and yours. Many blessings and happiness for the coming year to y'all! :-)

Andrea,
I like planning and setting a time, but experience has tought me that those plans often go out the window at the set time because of other more pressing and needed issues. When that occurs a few times in a row, it tends to aggrivate me and than it's too easy to throw in the towel, leaving me discouraged and insecure. So, now I hold on to the scripture:
Matthew 6:34
Therefore do not worry about tomorrow, for tomorrow will worry about its own things. Sufficient for the day is its own trouble.

and try to incorporate and carry out my plans and goals as God gives opportunity.:-)

Many blessings and love.

Cinder,
Those are my considerations as well. :-)

There is a time and place for everything. And God will show when.

Have a very blessed, joyful day dear sister.

God's Grace.

i guess making resolutions is a way of pinpointing a weakness and resolving to overcome that weakness ... do you think?

i don't usually make serious resolutions, and the past couple of years i haven't even thought of them unless someone brings it up ... oh - that's not quite true - i have resolved to do one or two things, to make them a habit (good one) in my life, and it did indeed well in years past ...

may God bless your new year!

Hi, Corry -

I haven't commented in a few days, but have been reading. I agree with you completely on this post. I've written about it before at Finding Direction - the fact that all any of us have is TODAY, so we should resolve each and every day to live the best we can that day and let God make up the difference with his amazing grace.

That's how I try to live, anyway, and it's working a lot better than when I engaged in self-imposed guilt for weaknesses and resolutions I sometimes failed in. The day by day walk is a much easier one to walk, I think, and a much more realistic one if we are totally honest with ourselves.

"Sufficient for the day are the evils thereof." With God's help, we can walk this day with confidence and head's up, repenting when we stumble.

Cheers & Blessings to each of you today!

Dee

I think I have the same attitude you do concerning new year's resolutions. Every day is a new opportunity to get closer to the Lord. I just pray that He helps my walk with Him throughout this coming year.

On that note, I do wish you a very blessed 2007!!

Blessings,
Sarah

Saija,
A very Happy and blessed New Year to you as well!

I concur with you, it's pinpointing a weakness. And it's good to admit and accept I have one (or more!). That way I can do something about it. :-)

Curious Servant,
A Happy New Year to you and yours and many blessings for the coming year.

Dee,
"The day by day walk is a much easier one to walk".
That is so true and why put off until tomorrow, what I can do today?!

Good to have you here. I hope and pray you are doing well.

Sarah,
A very blessed 2007 to you as well!

Welcome to my blog and thank you for the comment. :-)

I think we know He will help us walk with Him. May He give us the strength, courage and determination to help Him walk with Him and stay beside Him! :-)

God's Grace.

I have been breaking my head to figure out what you meant by " the tumbleweeds are about to take over". Maybe you can explain what you meant by that, please? I know one thing... it doesn't sound good!

In case you haven't gotten an explanation in the meantime-tumbleweeds are the ultimate expression of neglect/abandonment, like dust bunnies or cobwebs, but more desolate. Work has been taking up about every moment not already claimed by the young'uns. Maybe I'll start blogging more regularly if/when things at work calm down.

With all the resolutions, plans and goals you made, you have to be flexible! grin.

Seriously, I read your resolutions and I think they are great. May God bless you to accomplish them all, dear sis.

Patty,
Thank you and all the same to you and yours!

It's not late at all. The new year is only 15 days old. I think you can wish someone a Happy New Year throughout January. Especially friends! :-)

Lenise,
Thanks for the explanation. I already had visions of y'all wandering through the desert, homeless, haha.

Sorry for all the stress and pressure at work. I hope it will ease off soon.
I will patiently await your return. :-)

God's Grace.

So nice to see you here. Welcome and thanks for the comment.

I hadn't heard that hymn before but Kc sang it for me:-) It's beautiful.

You know, I am not sorry to have RA. When I see what I can do, inspite of it, I am so grateful for God's grace and mercy. I hope it will be a wonderful testimony to others and that will help them to find their way to Our Lord.

God's Grace.
