Keep Those Muscles Moving

I guess we all were aware that the older we get, the weaker our muscles get when we don't exercise, but I came across an article which mentioned that research showed we loose muscle mass and muscle size from age 60 and up and need more exercise to maintain what muscles we have.

Loosing muscle mass due to aging is called sarcopenia and in order to prevent that, it takes a lot more resistant training exercises, such as weight lifting. Maintaining your muscle mass has as benefits not just better a range of motion, but also an improved bone and joint health and a better metabolism.

In case you are capable of exercising, then keep it up. You may not increase your muscle mass with the regime of work out you are currently following, but it will still yield all the benefits mentioned above and you will at least keep the strength you have.

When a physical condition limits you then you may want to consider swimming; this is a great and pleasant exercise which works almost every muscle in your body without putting any strain on your joints.

Should you not be able to work out at all, then you can still exercise. Exercise your faith in God, for He is our strength even when we are weak! :-)

2 Samuel 22:33
God is my strength and power, And He makes my way perfect.
