HIFU Treatment

I usually try to come up with health topics which appeal and/or could be helpful to practically anyone, but every now and then I come across one which pertains specifically to one of the genders. To give you an example; where information on Osteoporosis is mainly of interest for the majority of the women, any information concerning prostate cancer is specifically for the men.

I certainly don't want to neglect or avoid this health issue, since there are so many men, especially the ones over the age of 55, who are either at risk of being confronted with it in the future, or may already suffer from it. For both categories it is good to know that the available treatments have expanded and that HIFU now belongs to one of the options.

What the cause of this type of cancer is, is unknown yet and in when it is in an early stage you may not even be aware of the fact that you have it since you don't experience any of the following symptoms; trouble urinating and a diminished force in the stream of urine, blood in your urine, swelling in your legs and pain in your bones.

In case you have any or all of the above symptoms, you better see your doctor right away. You may not need any treatment yet, but at least you will be monitored and action will be taken as soon as there are signs the disease progresses and HIFU (High Intensity Focused Ultrasound) may be the route to go.

With the choice between radiation, chemotherapy, hormone therapy, or surgery, there is also the possibility to opt for an alternative treatment in the form of HIFU which uses powerful sound waves to heat the tissue and hence causes the cancer cells to die.

Prevention is still the best option and that can be achieved through diet, exercise, and maintaining a healthy weight!
