Clear The Air

I try to keep an eye out for health and health related issues which are making headlines. It keeps me updated on new developments, researches, studies, and new findings.

While doing so yesterday, I came across an article that talked about several reasons why people's allergies were getting worse during visits to gyms and pools. It so turns out that the air in many work-out facilities is polluted due to the use of all kinds of different chemicals.

The most surprising and shocking ones to me were disinfectants and air fresheners. Many of us use those products on a regular basis, if not almost daily, in our homes. We tend to use the disinfectants even more when the flu is going round, with the hopes we will be spared from falling victim to the flu-bug.

It may help in escaping the flu, but it also has the tendency to increase the resistance even more of the already methicillin-resistant Staphylococcus aureus (MRSA). These bacteria are responsible for causing Staph and other skin infections, pneumonia, meningitis, bone, joint, wound infections, and more.

The disinfectant and air freshening sprays are the main culprit for polluting the indoor air. The chemicals they contain have already been linked to cancer, asthma, headaches, and allergies. It is much healthier to air out your abode by opening windows for about 15 minutes each day then to resort to air fresheners.

If you want to use a disinfectant then look for unscented wipes, gels, and hand sanitizers which are alcohol-based for 70% or more. When you are in an area which is used by many, you would do well to keep your hands away from your face until you washed them with water and soap; that is just as effective as using sanitizers.

Taking precautions is often necessary, but if those are hazardous to people's health, it is best to abstain from them. There may be other, simpler, and better solutions to the problem. We may not see them right away, but God will reveal them in His appointed time!

Job 12:10
In whose hand is the life of every living thing, And the breath of all mankind?
