Habits

I have heard that it takes 17 days of making yourself do the same thing the same way before it becomes a habit.

I suppose that pertains to adopting a good habit. Something we know we need to do or learn and have to actually put some effort into, which we obviously don't like to do. Why do I suspect that? Well....have you noticed how quick bad habits are developed and taken on?!

Yeah, I am behind with my Bible Study. I got in a good routine and habit, and then let it go for what seemed more pressing earthly matters. Once that's done, it is so easy to find a justification for nursing a bad habit. Now I have to work even harder to catch up. But I will. It's well worth it.

Just imagine, God hadn't put forth any effort for us!

Leviticus 18:30
‘Therefore you shall keep My ordinance, so that you do not commit any of these abominable customs which were committed before you, and that you do not defile yourselves by them: I am the LORD your God.’”

i am as guilty as you are with pertains to our bible study. i am so much behind, but i will catch up.

i've always wondered why it's so much easy to take on bad habits and so hard to break them. is it because (one lame excuse) we're just human?

Karen,
That is so true. I would have another long list of blessings if I had to write them down:-)

Pia,
I have every confidence you will catch up:-)

Human and sinful. I think it's our lust for the easy way and the short-cuts. A justification for what we want at the moment, is quickly found and we have no problem twisting our minds and deceiving ourselves (and others as well). And then pride prevents us from admitting and looking at the guilt and the shame. We rather blame it on something or someone else. Isn't that the way it usually shakes out?:-)
But the good news is: we can overcome all that through Christ who strengthens us:-)

God's Grace.

I love it when I have those moments of remembering He is my strength! I plug along, get totally exhausted, feel overwhelmed and hopeless, then remember! It's like Christmas every time. I can lay it all at His feet and feel so much lighter! His goodness never ceases to amaze me. And neither do you.
much love and peace to you!

Audrey,
And yours as well, zusje (little sister):-)
And a gooooodmorning/evening/night to you as well. I never know what time it is on your side:-(

God bless you and grant you a great weekend with lots of joy.

Karyn,
We seem to go through the same cycle:-) I am trying to break that by stopping regularly to get refreshed instead of wearing myself out and get to that point of hopelessness. I am not doing a really good job, yet.
And you never cease to amaze me with your strength and encouragement in our Lord:-)

Love you, dear sister. Have a very blessed weekend.

God's Grace.

I love the verses that you post on your site - so encouraging. It is easy to fall behind, but remember more important than doing the study is to meditate on HIM. He is our great reward. But I know what you mean. It is so easy to fall behind and not prioritize properly. But being in love with Him is more important than a check list - not that you are doing that, but I do that. I keep thinking about Mary and Martha. I am Martha, but I am Mary too. Which one would do the Bible Study diligently? Well, maybe Martha would have all the check boxes completed because she was really good in all of her preparations but maybe Mary wouldn't get her homework done, but would still be there worshipping Jesus at His feet. Well, blaaa, blaaa, blaaaa. I love you for listening to me!

Claire,
I don't mind at all, I am grateful and honored and more then happy to:-)

Andrea,
You pointed it out so well when you said "prioritize properly". I also think it's a matter of value and focussing on what's true. Our value should be on godly things, not earthly and no matter how pressing and important the latter present themselves to be, it's often deceiving that life can't go on without taking care of them first. I think it's Satan's way of pulling us away from God.

There ought to be a balance between getting your homework done and worshipping Him. I haven't found it yet:-)
I think the importance is love, as you said.

I think your blaaa, blaaa's are very edifying and helpful and you can post them anytime you like:-)

Love you too, sister:-)

God's Grace.
