Cleansing
Another hot day. The sun is heating up the air quickly and in no time scorching everything it touches. Fine dust and dirt particles, kicked up by a slight breeze and passing cars, settle down on the surroundings, covering all in a thin, hardly noticeable film of dimness.
A weak thunder is heard in the distance. Clouds appear at the horizon, slowly making their way forward, darkening the sky. As the thunder grows louder, nature falls silent. Flashes of lightning split through the air and light up the sky with a blinding brightness. A few spare raindrops, like messengers shouting a warning, announce what is about to come to pass.
Within minutes, the rain approaches, falling over the land like a blanket. Relentlessly it beats down on all in it's path, cleansing it from the film of dirt and dust, revealing it's true colors and reviving it with it's life-giving water. Streams of dirt run down hill, gathering together, making their way to ditches and sewers, to be disposed off.
And then it's over. The sun peeks through the dark clouds, exposing the lush, bright colors that once were hidden under dirt and dust.
Even though the thunderstorms in our lives are sometimes frightening and not always wanted, their cleansing power is needed to be able to look at ourselves clearly and see and enjoy the life that exists without all the dirt and dust.
Psalm 51:2
Wash me thoroughly from my iniquity, And cleanse me from my sin.

I've been doing a bit of a study of suffering, and it is like you said about the thunderstorms, God uses these difficulties for His purposes, but they are still difficult and scary, but all the more so when we do not have the maturity (who does?), discipline and focus of keeping our eyes upon Him - like the sea sick passenger on the boat who needs to keep looking to the horizon to not be sick. And like you said, the thunderstorms clean us off and purify our faith unto His glory. God bless you and thank you for your consistency and sharing and grace and fellowship in Him.
I like your analogy.
And sometimes a thunderstorm can be enjoyable; if you're in a safe place when it comes. The cleansing still happens, all around you, and it's a good experience.
Andrea,
All so we can have life and have it more abundantly :-)
Karen,
So true.
I like your positive approach, dear sister :-)
God's Grace.
Sometimes the storms are so heavy.
The thunder is so loud.
We need them.
We feel so refreshed after the heavy downpour.
The air is so crisp and cooling.
Even the birds are chirping happily away.
The plants are so lively too.
God bless you, lieve zus and Casey :)
Corry, this was so refreshing! I love your observations and how you write ;)
Audrey,
Sometimes it's needed to get a better perspective and to see all the blessings:-)
God bless you too, lieve zus!

Hey Corry!
We had a really big bad lightning storm last night. It was cool to watch.
Kristi!!!!
Good to have you back, girl.:-)
Some people stand in front of the window and smile the whole time while it's lightning. You know why? They think their picture is being taken. :-D
So... did you smile too??? grin.
God's Grace.
Jayne!!!!!!
