Regardless...

Sometimes we don't see the foolishness, consequences and the dangers in/of what we do.

Or is it that we just don't want to consider them before we do them? :-)

Proverbs 22:15
Foolishness is bound up in the heart of a child; The rod of correction will drive it far from him.

wow this is a vivid picture. I think it can be both.

In my own experiences, I have done foolish things without seeing the consequences (that is really foolish). Other times, I just didn't want to consider them (and that is not only foolish, but irresponsible). Sigh! We are all sinners and fall short of the glory of God!

I agree with Kitty. And the worst is when we ignore that there are consequences, or think we're immune.

Kitty,
Been there, done that. Still am and do sometimes :-) But I think God is so gracious to show us, so we can learn from it.

Karen,
Those are the worst: I want what I want when I want it... regardless!
In the end we will reap what we sow and it often ends up with us having hurt ourselves most.

God's Grace.

I agree with all of you. I too have been on both ends of the spectrum. Have gotten myself into situations, but was blind to see the consequences...that was really bad judgement on my part. Then there have been times when I knew full well what the consequences were going in, but I dismissed them...that was just plain stupidity on my part!

But as Kitty said, we all are sinners and do fall short of the glory of God. The comforting truth which was taught to the group of kids I'm leading at VBS this week was that no matter what we do, where we go, how bound we might be with sin, we can always talk to God even if it's whisper prayers or prayers in our head. He will never forsake us, but will instead walk alongside us no matter what the circumstances, even when all might turn their backs. That's a truly amazing gift which He bestows to each one of us!

Blessings to you and Kc!

On the other hand (and maybe this isn't what you're talking about), there are times we're called upon to take risks. A lot of things we do are fraught with risks we don't see (just taking a drive, for instance!) I'm a very risk-averse person, so sometimes I have to just step out in faith to do something scary which I just have to do (like drive to work in a rainstorm)! The question, I guess, is whether it's a pointless risk or whether it's something worth doing that might have consequences we don't like. (Preaching to myself)

Lenise,
Or... may have consequences for others and/or ourselves that we didn't intend to.

And I agree, we have to step out on faith and take a risk in order to reach the goal.

God's Grace.

I'm learning to be more sensitive to the sweet promptings from the Holy Spirit and to be more receptive to the advice of very mature, responsible friends :)
