Hearing and Learning

I was at the doctor's office today to have several tests done and they all came out fine. We still don't know what causes all my ailments and discomforts, but at least it does not seem to be heart related. Yeah, I am extremely grateful for that. Praise The Lord!

While I was watching TV in the waiting room, I heard the following on a daily show:

- Drinking two 6 oz. cups of coffee daily is a good prevention for uterine, liver and colon cancer, Alzheimer disease and diabetes.

- Sugarless chewing gum helps against cavities; it stimulates the production of saliva which cleanses the mouth and therefore gets rid of harmful bacteria. It also gives a feeling of relaxation, boosts alertness, concentration, memory and could even help with loosing weight.

- Breathing easier can be achieved by not making the bed. According to a British study, an unmade bed could prevent allergies; dust mites like tucked-in sheets because they offer covered breeding area.

- Disinfecting our homes is unhealthy because we not only kill the harmful, but also the harmless bacteria. This leaves us very vulnerable to bacteria which can cause serious health conditions. In addition: disinfectant sprays and air fresheners release chemicals that can heighten asthma risk.

I already knew about the first and had a suspicion about the last one. My grandfather always used to say: 'a runny nose and a dirty apron raise healthy children'. By killing all the germs we are more susceptible to diseases, so I guess that confirms my grandpa was right.

I had no clue about the chewing gum and the allergies which shows there is so much more to learn. I suspect we never stop learning, unless we choose to. The question would be though: why would we make that choice?

The answer would be obvious; out of pride and vanity. Thinking we know everything will not only hurt us, but those around us as well. We don't have to blindly accept everything we hear is true, but we can at least consider it and see where or how it could or would be.

We never have to question and can blindly accept God's word, guidance and leadership! Yeah, I am extremely grateful for that. Praise The Lord!

Proverbs 1:5
A wise man will hear and increase learning, And a man of understanding will attain wise counsel,
