Freezing Food and Fruit
Since I am posting a lot on the health benefits of all kinds of different foods and fruits, I thought it might be beneficial to share some guidelines as to how long you can keep them in your freezer. It would be a waste of effort and money if you had to throw them out due to freezer burn and poor quality.
- Bacon, sausage, Hot dogs and lunch meats: 1 to 2 months.
- Bread, cookie dough, cooked beef, pork, soups, stews and casseroles: 2 to 3 months.
- Frozen dinners, uncooked ground meat and cooked poultry: 3 to 4 months.
- Uncooked steaks, chops, or roasts: 4 to 12 months.
- Vegetables and fruit: 8 to 12 months.
- Uncooked chicken parts: 9 months and a whole uncooked chicken can be frozen for up to a year.
It is always best to freeze food right after you buy it to preserve the best quality. Spread cleaned, dried and/or cut up fruit on a cookie sheet and put it in freezer bags after it is frozen. Boil or steam vegetables for a few minutes, let them cool off and then freeze them; this benefits the flavor and texture, as well as the color.
You may want to label your food with the date it is frozen on it. That way you will know when to use it. Keep in mind to defrost it either in the fridge or in the microwave. Even thawing it in cold water is an option, but don't lay it on the counter top to thaw, because that could be asking for unwanted bacteria.
Most of our foods need to be consumed before they reach their expiration date. There is food though which never expires and can be taken in any time and any where: God's Word!
John 6:27
Do not labor for the food which perishes, but for the food which endures to everlasting life, which the Son of Man will give you, because God the Father has set His seal on Him."
