Strolling Along, Singing a Song

Contributed by Cameron Hodge

Going to my stroller class is the highlight of my week. I get exercise, my daughter gets to spend time outside, and we both get to be around friends. If you are unfamiliar, a stroller class is for moms, or dads, and their children who ride in strollers. An instructor leads a group of parents in exercises and activities. We usually start off with a couple of songs to engage the kids and warm up the parents. Then we're off; we typically power walk for a couple of miles, stopping to amuse the babies and toddlers with songs and activities, while the adults simultaneously do strength training.

While the class may sound like hard work, sometimes getting to it is the biggest obstacle. After feeding, diapering and dressing my daughter, I have to throw on my coat and shoes, load the diaper bag, bring beverages for both of us, and remember to grab my keys and set the ADT home security alarm. I'm exhausted just thinking about it!

Thankfully the group meets only a couple of blocks away so I don't have to worry about wrangling my little sweetheart into the dreaded car seat. I'm so glad that I joined this group. The two classes a week have helped me to get in shape and meet some great new friends.
