Mind Over Matter

It is not always easy coping with the fact that you have a chronic disease. Especially the time right after having received the diagnosis is the hardest.

Even though most people probably already had the suspicion that the outcome of all the tests and blood work would confirm that particular condition, there is always that tiny bit of hope it may turn out to be something else which is curable.

Most people eventually accept the inevitable, some sooner then others, but there is a minority who just can't deal with the idea of constantly having to live in pain and/or with limitations for the rest of their lives.

This can cause severe depression and in spite of all the encouragement and help from family and friends, they refuse to look on the bright side and make the best of it. Their zest for life is gone and even though they may not be aware of it, they are in desperate need of professional help.

Since counseling is still looked upon as having to partake in a negative action and also still is associated with mental illnesses, there are very few who jump at the idea of seeing a counselor. They may want to, but they fear of what the rest of the world would think, will often prevent them from seeking help.

Those people could benefit from online counseling. It is very unlikely that the public is aware of these services. Most of the counseling has always been held in a designated office or health care facility, but times have changed and technology has opened up a greater accessibility for and to these services.

This definitely pertains to any and all counseling services and there are many. It is not just for those suffering from depression; a child may need speech therapy or someone could need just that extra boost in self confidence in order to lead a happier life.

In case the option and benefit from online counseling it is not appealing and/or even questionable, there is always the possibility to go back to the conventional way and make an appointment with the counselor you need or want to see.

Those can often be found in the local listings online, but government and other renowned sites like NDSU can be of great help locating a recognized and professional expert.

Keep in mind that counseling can be of great help in getting back on track, but in the end it is the person who will have to put mind over matter!
