Heat and Exercise Part II

To keep your cool, you need lots of fluids and when you know you are going to be out and about and will be sweating, it helps adding glycerol to your drinks; your kidneys will retain water which helps your body to stay cool.
Mix 20 percent glycerol with 80% water and drink it at least 30 minutes before you exercise.

Another advice is to get used to the heat, but that would normally take about two weeks of starting out with an easy 10 minute work out and gradually increasing the time.

Since we all are rather impatient, I don't see that working out. Therefore, it is best to do your outdoor exercises early in the morning, when the temperature is still bearable.

Patience; I can't wait to have it, but I am still practising it and practice makes perfect. With The Lord's help we can do anything!

Hey Corry,

It's been way too long since I've commented (I visit your blog at least once a week for advice with my own RA).

But I had to smile at this entry. " . . . get used to the heat . . . " I live in Phoenix, AZ where today will be around 110 degrees with high humidity (humidity seems to really work up my arthritis, I don't know why).

Even in the early Autumn and last Spring our temperatures can be in the 90's.

But, though you say getting used to heat (via exercise, and etc.) may take two weeks or so (which is correct), I don't think I'll ever get used to our beautiful desert's heat. (On the plus side, my banana plant is bearing fruit!)
