The Flu Shot
I was rather surprised to learn that the flu had taken on epidemic proportions this year and I sure hope you have been able to escape it. So far, we have, but it is not over yet. Although we had a flu shot, that is no guarantee we won't fall victim to it.
My suspicion is that I am not the only one who was under the misconception that once given a flu shot, we were covered. It so turns out that by this injection we are only protected against three or four of the many strains of flu-viruses.
The World Health Organization each year determines which influenza strains they expect to rear their ugly heads. The vaccine is based on and manufactured according to those predictions. There are, unfortunately, so many different types where the flu virus is concerned; they can't all be defended against.
Don't get me wrong; I think having a flu shot is extremely helpful. It certainly prevents many from getting severely ill, or worse. If you assume however you are coming away scot-free this year after receiving the vaccine, you could be sorely disappointed.
We can only do so much to protect and defend ourselves from outside attacks. If we trust in our own wisdom, strength, and abilities however, we could be sorely disappointed. We can and should trust God though. He never disappoints. His love, grace, and mercy endure forever!
Psalm 5:11
But let all those rejoice who put their trust in You; Let them ever shout for joy, because You defend them; Let those also who love Your name Be joyful in You.

Caught a nasty flu bug from my nephew at the beginning of the year. The cough lasted for about three weeks. All's well now :)
Take care, Lieve Zus.
