What Are Your Nails Telling You?

Not that long ago I read that your hands can tell you a lot about your health. The next time you clip your nails for instance, you may want to examine them up close and look for discolorations under the nails.

It is said that when you spot a brown or black stripe under the nail of your thumb or big toe, it could be a sign of skin cancer. Autoimmune diseases such as lupus and RA could cause a red discoloration in front or the cuticle. Since I have RA, I checked and did find some red spots.

My Rheumatologist always warns me to keep my extremities warm to avoid Raynaud’s disease (a narrowing of small arteries which can cause tissue damage). This disease is often revealed by pale, white, or blue fingertips.

The way your nails are growing can also be an indicator of an underlying disease. Nails that grow curved like a spoon could mean you may have an iron deficiency and when they curve down immediately at the end of your fingers, this might be a sign of a lung disease.

Should you notice any of the above then it is recommended to see a physician and have it checked out. There is more your hands can tell you about your health and I will get around to that soon.

In the mean time, don't forget to grab God's Hand. It is perfect and always reaching out to you!

Isaiah 41:13
For I, the Lord your God, will hold your right hand, Saying to you, 'Fear not, I will help you.'
