Attitude

As I was commenting on Gina's blog, I thought I might as well get this of my chest in a post.

I have nothing but praise for all those who go out of their gourds to do all they can to help. I am amazed and grateful how fast help and rescue, restoration of power, telephone and even cable tv occurred, where possible.

It angers and frustrates me to see (much) of the media reporting, showing, and searching only for negativity and blame, giving a false image of what is really going on: A nation/world-wide fellowship helping those in need as quickly as humanly possible.

I pray for the victims but also, God bless all those helping, in whatever capacity, to bring relief. No matter how small. They are the ones that bring God glory and are a testimony of His love and mercy, along with all the victims who held their faith in these times of tribulation. Thank you Lord for every one of them!!

1 Corinthians 12
4 There are diversities of gifts, but the same Spirit. 5 There are differences of ministries, but the same Lord. 6 And there are diversities of activities, but it is the same God who works all in all.

Hi Corry,
Media used to report the "news" when I was a boy and pretty much continued up until my father bought the first little black and white television in our village. It was a table model but took up a lot of the space on the library table. From that day on we watched the men and women going through the motions of broadcasting "live" television. Unless you lived and saw it then there is no way it can be described. But they did read the news. You didn't see any remote television coverage of say, an auto accident, as that was impossible to do then. So the news was read and we listened. The news was a short version of what you could read in the local newspapers. Nowadays the "news" is actually packaged as "entertainment" and is designed to shock and sell commercials. That's all it really is. People will sit on the edge of their seats to see an execution but would go get something to drink when the local car accident is shown. And the media knows that so that is the kind of news we are fed. And it is the media at fault for doing it but they do it for viewers and that in turn pays the bills and makes a profit for the retired folks who socked some money in the stock market. I think ?

Thanks for the visit and the comment.

I vaguely remember the black and white news on tv in the Netherlands. They read the news, no video's or footage, no pics even. And most of it was national and international news. Local news you would read in the papers or was passed on amongst the neighbourhood.

Looking at myself, I get weary of all the blame-games and negativity. Giving praise and encouragement would be such a nice and welcome change.

God's Grace.

I agree with ya. Few stories report hope

And as you said below, it only takes one hurricane to elevate the respect of them. But what I've seen since childhood, are two things 1) a storm comes and "is not as bad" as expected so when the next one comes people are lacisacical (who knows how to spell it) then 2) pride of possessions tie them down no matter what the danger. They see their stuff as more valuable than their life. Talk about mixed priorities.

Anyway, good to know everyone is OK. BTW where were the pics taken. It looks familiar but I can't place it.

Thanks for the visit and the comment:-)

I can imagine the 2 aspects you mentioned playing a big part. So awful it costs so many people their lives.

I don't know how to spell lacisacical, as a matter of fact, I don't even know what it means haha, although I have a suspicion:-)

The first two pics were taken on Highway 90 to Pasquagoula, so you may now it. The last one you definitely know, that is our back yard hehe.

Thanks for your concern and we are grateful as well to know that y'all are ok.

Btw, what's keeping you???:-)

God's Grace.

I couldn't have said it better, Corry. It almost seems to me that the media are belittling the efforts of all those valiant volunteers in order to place blame for purely politcal reasons. These people have selflessly given of their time and energies to help others who have had the sad misfortune of being in the path of a monumental natural disaster. The very least that we can do is pray for rescuers as well as the rescued.

I pray, too, that our President will receive from God the strength to continue under this unrelenting barrage of hatred.

this verse came to my mind after reading your post. i realized that a lot of people would just help if there is a media coverage.

"But when you give to the needy, do not let your left hand know what your right hand is doing, so that your giving may be in secret. Then your Father, who sees what is done in secret, will reward you." Matthew 6:3-4

still praying for the victims of katrina.

The world would be ignorant without media. It is just the way how some of the media covers it. What would be more encouraging to help? Hearing about fighting, shooting and looting, or hearing about rescues, reuniting families, relief organisations, housing and rebuilding?

But I totally agree with you, everybody can help in their own way and capacity. God will reward:-)

oh, please don't get me wrong, i don't have anything against the media. i agree with you that the world will be ignorant without it.
it's heart-warming to see people helping those in need.

my point is, people ought to help with or without the cameras around. because even if no one sees you helping or recognizes your effort, God in heaven sees everything and you will surely be rewarded.

God bless.

I agree, if/when able, everyone should help.
