Respiratory Syncytial Virus
Both our granddaughter and our youngest grandson came down with an RSV infection. I had never heard of this virus, but several people mentioned it was a nasty virus and very contagious as well. They were right!
Healthy persons who would catch this bug would easily recover from it in one to two weeks, but it can cause serious problems for infants, young children and for older people with a weak immune system or people with a weakened immune system due to medications.
RSV can easily be confused with a cold or the flu, since the symptoms are much alike. It can also cause Pneumonia and is linked to cases of Asthma and other respiratory conditions in later life. There is no cure for RSV; it simply has to run its course.
Infants can be contagious for up to four weeks, even after they are cured. To keep the virus from spreading the same preventative measures which are recommended for the flu also are advised for RSV.
Our grandson may no longer carry the virus, but I am not so sure about our granddaughter. No matter how much I hate it, I better stay clear because if I catch that infection then we all are sunk.
That last may not be entirely true; God gives what's needed when it is needed and even in sickness He is there to strengthen, comfort and encourage us as well as our loved ones.
Psalm 41:3
The LORD will strengthen him on his bed of illness; You will sustain him on his sickbed.
