Healthy Foods II

I found some more studies and researches concerning our consumption and have listed both foods and drinks, as well as all their benefits, below. You may be astonished to read some of them; I know I was. Some of the foods or drinks on the list were a rather pleasant surprise though.

- Barley
Eating Barley for breakfast cuts blood sugar response by 44 percent at lunch, and 14 percent at dinner.

- Clams
Clams are a great source for magnesium, which is needed for a good metabolism, nerve function, and muscle function. A low magnesium level causes physical tiredness.

- Rooibos Tea
Rooibos tea (also known as bush, or redbush tea) may possess potent immunity-boosting benefits and could help prevent allergies and even cancer.

- Honey
Honey is a great and tasty cough suppressant; it diminishes the cough and the severity of it. A teaspoon of honey is already enough to do the trick.

- Kiwi
One kiwi has 117% of the daily recommended vitamin C. Eating a kiwi when having a cold will help you overcome it quicker.

- Olives
The anti-inflammatory compounds in olives (and olive oil) help reduce inflammation in the same manner as ibuprofen.

- Margarine
Margarine which contains plant sterols can lower LDL (bad) cholesterol by 6 percent, because the plant sterols prevent cholesterol from being absorbed by the intestine.

- Spinach
Spinach contains a compound which allows muscle tissue repairing itself faster. It turns out that treating human muscle cells with this compound increases protein synthesis by 20 percent.

- Green Tea
Three cups of green tea for a week decreases cell damage caused by resistance to exercise. That means that green tea can help you recover faster after an intense workout.

- Low-Fat Chocolate Milk
Low-fat chocolate milk does a better job than sports drinks at replenishing the body after a workout, because it has more electrolytes and higher fat content. Also the balance of fat, protein, and carbs in chocolate milk makes it nearly one-third more effective at replenishing muscles than other recovery beverages.

I love butter on my sandwich and I don't really care whether that is margarine or anything else. I am quite certain there are some among you who are thrilled reading that low-fat chocolate milk is better for them than sport drinks.

It does mean though that we have to be careful in choosing our food and drink, because not everything is good for us. Let's rephrase that last: not every man-made food and/or drink is good for us!

Isn't it wonderful knowing that God gives our daily bread which contains all we need and then some?!

Psalm 104:27
These all wait for You, That You may give them their food in due season.
