Watch Out For Cyclospora

I have never been very excited about prepackaged salad mixes. Even though it may look fresh, I don't trust it. Lettuce is one of those rare items I prefer to buy and use as fresh as possible. I would rather make my own salad mix if need be, but I don't blame you if you are all for quick and easy.

The prepackaged salad mixes are very convenient and save you a lot of work chopping up all the ingredients. Be careful however; The Iowa Department of Public Health suspects that the cyclospora outbreak in their state has been caused by a prepackaged salad mix.

Cyclospora is a type of parasite which causes cramps, bloating, gas, nausea, fatigue, and diarrhea. The latter is not the kind that lasts only a few days, but can linger for up to 57 days. Besides all the uncomfortable symptoms, the risk for dehydration is extremely great.

There have already been diagnosed 372 cases of cyclospora infection. Around a third of the victims were residents of Iowa, but other cases have also been reported in Texas, Nebraska, Florida, Wisconsin, Illinois, Georgia, Missouri, Arkansas, Connecticut, Kansas, Minnesota, New Jersey, New York, and Ohio.

The majority of the victims had been exposed to the same type of prepackaged salad mix. It may be best to forego this salad mix for a while until the word is out that is safe for consumption again. Hopefully, that word will come soon.

We all need some good directions to live by. We need words we can trust and rely upon, words which guide and lead us and are geared towards our health and wellbeing. Those words are quickly and easily found and available to anyone. Those words come from God!

Proverbs 30:5
Every word of God is pure; He is a shield to those who put their trust in Him.
